Our Calamus Root Tincture, made from organically grown Acorus calamus (also known as Vacha, Sweet Flag, or simply Calamus), is crafted with care using high-quality cane alcohol. This traditional herbal extract has deep roots in Ayurveda—the world’s oldest documented botanical medical system.
Calamus thrives in the damp, ephemeral pools of our farm, where it spends much of the year submerged in water. Known for its grounding, warming, and drying properties, calamus tincture is traditionally used to help awaken digestive fire and support mental clarity. It is especially valued by those experiencing feelings of heaviness, mental fog, or internal congestion.
We grow the American species, which is understood to not contain Beta-acerone, which has been banned by the FDA. Until the regulations are clarified by species, we do not recommend internal use of this plant. This tincture can be applied topically for aromatic effects.
