The variety of Yarrow that we grow and distill is called "Proa" which is higher in essential oil content.  Loaded with a chemical known as matricin (although found in cousins chamomile and tansy) that turns blue with steam distillation, people have been distilling plants that yield this highly valued constituent for hundreds if not thousands of years.   

As a result, the plant water, or hydrosol, is also a beautiful transparent sky blue color and is known for its ability to cool and tone red, hot, irritated conditions.  Safe and gentle enough to be applied directly to the skin.
